A blog is extremely beneficial for your business, giving you the edge against your competitors and serving as a great marketing device. But you may be wondering what makes a blog so advantageous – isn’t it just for personal use, like a journal?

It’s actually defined as a discussion or information site about a particular topic, which is updated regularly and listed in reverse chronological order. Although there are many blog hosting websites for individuals to use, it’s also possible for a business to set up a blog on their website, and this is one of the services that we provide at The Creation Lab.

Perhaps the greatest advantage of a blog is the recognition it brings your business’ website. With Google placing more emphasis on good quality content, having a regularly updated blog boosts your website up the search engine results. Using a selection of relevant keywords in your posts (i.e. the most popular words people are searching for) will increase traffic to your website. Just one of your posts could go viral on social media and social bookmarking websites, and guarantee hundreds more viewers of your website.

With UK internet users making at least 2 billion search engine visits a month, a blog is arguably more effective than other advertising methods. Whereas an advertisement on a train or in a newspaper may get your business exposed, a blog is attracting the right people to your business. Therefore, if your blog is providing good information, it’s a low cost way to reach your target audience.

An additional benefit of blogging is the relationships you’ll build with your consumers. If you offer unbiased opinions and good advice, people will regard your business as trustworthy, and are more likely to use you over your competitors. A blog reassures consumers that your business is made up of experienced professionals who know their field and care about giving advice to others. It means you determine your reputation, because your blog can counter any bad reviews or negative comments you may have received elsewhere on the web.

You can instantly update your customers about developments or new products, and because the posts are listed in chronological order consumers can scroll through your company’s history. It shows how you have kept ahead of your competitors, with something unique to offer. Because a blog is so simple to update, within minutes you can incorporate images and videos, PDFs and other documents into your posts.

Hopefully this gives you an idea of what a blog can do for your business. If you have a good website that deserves to be seen, it makes sense to keep a blog updated, as it will increase traffic, display your business in a good light and provide your potential customers with high quality, relevant information about what you do.
