HOW TO GET BACKLINKS
Sep 13, 2012
As a guaranteed way of getting your website noticed, backlinks are an essential SEO technique. They improve your ranking on Google and increase traffic to your website.
It’s no wonder that people have invented ways of generating backlinks artificially. An SEO company can create hundreds of backlinks to your website, which seems like an easy way of turning your website into an overnight success. But before you consider buying backlinks let’s look at what Google has to say about it.
“Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.” (Google Webmaster Guidelines)
Basically, they don’t think buying backlinks is a good idea. With constant updates to their algorithms to eliminate these sorts of SEO methods, it’s risky path to take. Anyone wanting to increase traffic to their website needs to be on Google’s side, otherwise there’s no point in trying.
Quality and longevity is just as important as quantity, if not more so. If you’re paying an SEO company a monthly fee for backlinks, those links are going to appear more or less overnight, and will only last until you pay for more. Google will notice this pattern, and your website will go down in rankings.
Here at The Creation Lab we don’t buy backlinks or participate in any link schemes – we provide them organically, and generate traffic through blogs, video and social media. But how do you go about getting quality backlinks?
First of all, you need to have content worth linking back to. Make sure your website or blog is refreshed regularly, with well researched articles that people are going to want to read. Keep on top of the latest developments in your field and be the first to write about them, making sure you write from the point of view of your business.
Secondly, increase your presence on the web, so people can see who you are. A good way of doing this is commenting on other relevant blogs, and if the owners like your website they may secure a link for you. Look out for newer blogs which are gaining popularity, rather than well-established ones, as it’s unlikely you will receive a response from blogs receiving thousands of comments a day. Also, provide links to blogs yourself, as another way to grab the attention of their owners. If they see that your link is generating traffic to their blog, they are likely to return the favour.
Another way of creating backlinks could be through writing guest articles for other blogs, with a link back to your website. Some PR forums also allow you to add links into your discussions. Then there’s social media – set up Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts and start by adding a link to your website in the designated area. Use these sites to network with other businesses and post news, remembering to include a link wherever you can.
