DO I NEED A MOBILE WEBSITE?
Nov 23, 2012
Are you a local business? Do you want to attract more customers? Then the answer is, quite simply, yes, you do need a mobile website!
By 2014 mobile browsing is said to overtake desktop browsing. Whether or not this claim is true, you are still missing out of a large portion of your market if your website is not compatible with mobile devices. At a recent presentation Google asserted they’d seen a 400% increase in the number of global searches carried out on mobile devices compared to last year. That works out at about a 1 in 5 chance of a Google search being made on a mobile device.
But does this really affect you, the local business person? Sometimes the global statistics do not affect those working on a local scale, and different rules apply. But when we look at the local searches the odds of mobile browsing are actually higher – about 1 in 3 users are searching for a business or service in their local area.
Nowadays internet browsing tends not to be people just “surfing the web”; when they make Google searches they are looking for specific information about businesses. If your contact details, location and services are not clearly visible on a mobile device they are likely to go elsewhere.
The first step to making your website accessible to mobile users is to have a look at it on a mobile device yourself and identify what you need to change. Most standard websites are not designed for mobile screens, making them harder to navigate. They take a long time to load, the pages are too big for the screen and the key information is not easily accessible. First impressions are crucial, and if your potential customer is presented with an indistinguishable website on their mobile they will be put off.
A specifically designed mobile website will be in-keeping with your main website’s appearance and branding, but a scaled down version. With prominent buttons and all the important information clearly displayed, a mobile website has a simple design and is quick to load. It’s also designed to automatically resize, fitting all mobile screens and eliminating the need to scroll through pages or zoom in and out. People love convenience so a mobile website with a button to call you within a click is attractive to potential customers.
The mobile world is going to be essential to marketing in the coming years, so why not get ahead of your competitors and make use of the market now? To see an example of a mobile website, have a look at our portfolio.
