5 EFFECTIVE WEB DESIGN TECHNIQUES
Aug 08, 2013
Here at The Creation Lab we love keeping up with industry trends and techniques, as it helps us to create websites that are relevant and user-friendly.
Here are 6 current techniques we’ve been using in our designs recently.
Colour
Colourful websites are inviting, friendly and fun, and if colour is used well, it demands attention and reflects a brand’s personality.
Our design for Fluimix (See design above) uses the colour blue as an association with the company’s liquid mixing technology. The blue bubbles on the homepage are also in-keeping with the logo.
Big Images
Like colour, big images get a lot of attention, and add interest to a website.
Manor House Nursery’s website features a big forest image, as the nursery is located near the woods and the children get to explore them during the day.
Illustration
Illustration doesn’t work for all websites, but it’s ideal for creative or fun organisations. For example, we created an interactive children’s website for Lapland UK, which is almost entirely illustrated.
Minimalism
Sometimes a website doesn’t need lots of elements to make it interesting. Minimalist websites are simple, yet effective, helping users to find the information they need quickly and easily.
Texture
Rather than staying flat, textured websites use layering and other effects to make a website stand out from the page. If done well, this technique is very effective.
We’ve used some texturing elements, such as the grainy wood effect and the Channel 4 banner, on Food Thyme’s website, to help it stand out from the crowd.
What do you think of these techniques? Let us know in the comments below!
