4 STEPS TO EFFECTIVE CONTENT MARKETING
Sep 08, 2013
Although we spend a lot of time creating websites at The Creation Lab, we also know how important it is to get a website noticed online, as you want people to see how good it is! More and more companies are beginning to use content marketing to gain more website traffic, and it’s proven to work if you put enough effort in.
If you want to try content marketing for your website, follow these 4 simple steps to get started:
1. Consider your target audience
Without this first step, all your other efforts will be less effective. Work out who will benefit from your service or product – it could be a broad market or a targeted niche – and you can make more informed choices when it comes to the next steps.
2. Locate your target audience
The next step is to think about where your audience goes on the internet to discover new things. While young audiences tend to use social media (check out social media demographics here), there’s a fairly even spread of users on YouTube. Once you decipher audience’s biggest online influences, you can be more targeted with your content.
3. Create appealing content for appropriate outlets
Now it’s time to create your content. Be realistic about what you can handle, as it’s better to make a good impression on a few channels than to be juggling too many things at once.
Here are 5 examples for you to consider:
Video – An estimated 100 million internet users watch online video each day, and according to Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research, a 1 minute video is worth 1.8 million words! If you put all your efforts into producing a great video, it could gain a lot more traffic for your website.
Blogs – Are you an expert in your field of work? Blogs are a great way to gain customers, as they show people that there are real people behind the business, who know what they are talking about. Guest posts on popular blogs are also effective, because you have a ready-made audience for your work.
Twitter – Content marketing on Twitter is a fantastic way to interact with potential customers. You’ll gain a good following if you tweet regularly about interesting articles and news from your industry.
Facebook – Facebook is a bit like Twitter, although Facebook content has been moving more towards images and video than anything else. Share content frequently and get your followers involved with polls and questions.
Pinterest - Whether they are beautiful, inspiring or humorous, the images you upload to Pinterest should make people want to re-pin them, and visit their source. The most popular Pinterest themes are travel, weddings, home décor, baking, fashion and photography, and the majority of users are women.
4. Optimise your content
The final step is to optimise your content through submitting blog posts to article directories and tweeting links, getting your video known on YouTube, and using the correct keywords on titles, meta-tags and hashtags. You could also email clients about your new blog, and you can’t go wrong with word of mouth either!
The aim of this post was to help with the first steps of content marketing and to encourage you that it’s not as difficult as some people make out. We hope it’s been helpful, but if you have any more questions please feel free to contact us!
