5 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIVE DESIGN ELEMENTS
Feb 23, 2015
With mobile friendly websites taking centre stage in the world of SEO at the moment, it makes sense to switch to a responsive design. People who view your website on a mobile device will love you forever, and Google will recognise you as “mobile friendly”, improving your ranking on mobile search.
So, if you are considering a responsive website design, here are 5 key elements to remember.
Contact Details
With 3 out of 4 mobile searches resulting in a follow up action, it’s important to keep your contact details prominent on the mobile version of your website. A good responsive design will also make it easy for users to call or email in just a tap.
Branding
Don’t forget your branding! People are more impatient when they are browsing on their mobile, so they need to instantly recognise who you are. Your logo should still feature at the top of the page, with the colour scheme and layout matching your desktop version as much as possible.
Most Important Services
It makes sense to remove all non-essential elements on the mobile version of your website, both from a design and functionality point of view. Too much information will look overcrowded, making it difficult for the user to find exactly what they are looking for. Try to pick the services that your mobile visitors would like to see – perhaps it’s your special offers, or your most popular product.
Spacing
Across all window sizes, your website needs be clean and easy to look at. While it may look lovely on a desktop site, once it’s squashed down to a mobile screen it may look cluttered. You should also steer clear of elements overlapping or looking misaligned once it’s scaled down.
Location
Did you know that 50% of mobile users will visit a shop within a day of visiting their website? This means that up to half of the people looking at your website need to know where you are located. If you want people to visit you in person, make sure to keep your address prominent. You could also include an embedded Google map to make things even easier for them if they are browsing on-the-go.
