OUR TOP TIPS FOR PRODUCTIVITY IN THE WORKPLACE
Apr 10, 2015
WE’VE BEEN REFLECTING ON WHAT KEEPS US MOTIVATED ON A TYPICAL WORK DAY.
While we are lucky to have a fantastic open-plan office, complete with a colourful meeting area and as much fresh fruit as we can handle, we believe that everyone works differently, and therefore we have many different ways to boost productivity.
For example, I (Laura) like writing ideas down in a notebook every so often, as a break from looking at a screen.
So, from the trusty to-do list to the ever-dependable songs of Michael Jackson, here are some of The Creation Lab’s top tips for productivity in the workplace…
Jane, our web designer, spends most of her time coming up with fresh new designs for our clients. She finds taking a walk away from her PC helps, and she also values the importance of relaxation at the end of the day:
“If I've had a really frustrating or unproductive day I like to do something fun and enjoyably productive in the evening to relax, like baking or knitting. Also, getting an early night helps me feel much more prepared & rejuvenated the next morning.”
We often get to sample Jane’s baking – it’s very tasty! Amy, our lovely project manager, also likes to be prepared for the next working day:
“At the end of the day I write myself a list of things I need to do the following day. That way I can come in fresh faced the next day and I know I can get stuck into what needs completing.”
Our Senior New Media Producer, Jack, splits his time between filming, editing and bringing animations to life:
“I give myself plenty of treats throughout the day. If I get job X finished, I can have a chocolate bar. If I get job Y done, I can spend 5 minutes reading up on the basketball scores. Some days, the creativity just isn't there. Don't push it. Use that day to get the little jobs done, then come back to the big creative tasks the next day.”
So, the promise of chocolate keeps Jack motivated, but what about our new Web Developer, Adam?
“Michael Jackson.”
Ella, our New Media Assistant, needs to keep focussed when filling websites with content. She likes to structure her time to maximise productivity:
“I like to get up early, make sure I have breakfast (and at least two cups of tea!) and get some fresh air before work – that way I am feeling productive before the working day has even started. To maintain productivity and creativity, I like to work on a few different things, rotating between them throughout the day. This means that I can use the tasks I enjoy the most to break up the more time-consuming jobs, and use them as rewards. If I am ever stuck on something, I don’t like to waste time staring at it, instead I move onto something else and let my brain ponder it over. This does mean planning my workload in advance, and not leaving things until the last minute, so I have the flexibility to work on things gradually.”
Director Matt is currently out of the office, but judging by this holiday snap, we can glean that nothing boosts productivity like the occasional ice cream.
Do you have any productivity tips you'd like to share with us? We'd love to hear them!
