The Best Inventions of 2016
Dec 13, 2016
If there’s one thing we love here at The Creation Lab it's techy gadgets we can get stuck into, and this year certainly hasn’t disappointed in that department! 2016 has seen the rise of virtual reality, smart home technology and even self-tying shoes!
Take a look at some of the most talked about technology of the past year and have your say on whether it’s pure genius or a hideous disaster.
Self-driving cars
One of the most controversial inventions of this year is the Google self-driving car. Although this hasn’t yet been rolled out to the public it has had a lot of buzz around it and whether or not it would be a safer alternative for on the roads. Google describes it as a way to reduce road accidents as according to their research – 94% are due to human error, and a means for the disabled to retain their independence. All great perks, but is it really safe?
It was recently in the news after being involved in a crash, and people question its ability to react the way a human could if something unpredictable was to happen. Would you really want to strap in your children and wave goodbye to them as a driverless car took them on a long journey?
Although this technology is very futuristic and innovative, it may need some fine tuning before people are fully trusting of it! We are confident though that one day a self-driving car could prevent any road accidents and save hundreds of lives, as well as meaning that the disabled can live independently and safely.
Virtual reality headsets
The virtual reality headsets that were introduced by PlayStation this year are sure to change the way people game forever. We can only imagine them getting more high tech and therefore more realistic as time goes on, meaning people can experience things like skydiving and swimming with sharks all from the comfort of their own home!
This one’s a gamers dream and we think this will appeal to those who aren’t into gaming too, who wouldn’t want the opportunity to do extreme sports without the danger and expense? We think this device will be huge in the future, and not only in the gaming world; this technology could help people learn to walk again after an accident which is huge!
Self-tying shoes
Straight out of back to the future, this invention was widely talked about this year! Although these were first introduced at the end of last year to coincide with the film, they have now been released to the public for general sale. Whereas some may just see this as yet another way for the lazy to get even lazier, Nike has insisted otherwise promising great benefits for serious athletes.
They talk about in the future a shoe that will become tighter or looser without being prompted to adjust to the amount of movement you are undertaking.
Amazon echo dot
One of our favourites here at The Creation Lab because of the way it has revolutionised search, the amazon echo dot was first brought about in March but launched in the UK in September. We quickly snapped up our very own Alexa and we’ve never looked back, the introduction of smart home technology like this is sure to be big in the future. There are benefits not only for everyday ease of ordering products you need and switching on and off lights, but also for the disabled community this could be a big step forward.
We have written a blog all about the Amazon Echo Dot before and all of the benefits it offers - have a read here.
So 2016 has been a great year where technology is concerned, we can’t wait to see what 2017 brings! Have you purchased any of these products throughout 2016? If you have and want your own says please comment below!
