Why Your Business Needs a Stand Out Logo
Jan 06, 2017
A logo is a staple part of a business; it should stand for everything that you are about – instantly impacting your customers and being imprinted on their minds. So you need to make sure yours is remembered for all the right reasons! A brand is made through having a recognisable and trustworthy logo – but how do you make yours stand out?
A good logo should prompt instant good feeling towards the company, whilst encouraging and persuading the customer in. Take a look at some of the key elements for making your logo effective and successful.
Simple
A complicated logo will confuse your customers, make sure your logo is easy to read and to remember, this way a quick glance will reveal what it is your company does and make you stand out from the others.
Although, this can be taken too far in some cases; while simplicity is good, you still need to make sure the message of the company comes across. If you are a creative company you have free range to really experiment!
Versatile
Most of the time logos need to be used across a variety of different products and websites, because of this they need to be versatile. This means being vector images – these can be resized without pixelating – and should work both horizontally and vertically.
Before deciding on a logo design, think can it be made small enough for something like a page header, and big enough for a billboard? Could it work in just black and white? Once you have answered yes to all these questions you’ll know your logo is good to go!
Relevant
This may seem like an obvious one, but if you’re a business selling fishing rods, it may not be a good idea to have a logo showing a car. Make sure that your logo has some relevance to your company so that people will know what you are all about just by a quick glance at you logo.
Another aspect that could affect this is colour, if your logo is aimed at a younger audience it may be a good idea to have more colours in it, whereas if it’s aimed at an older audience, black and white would be more suited.
Distinctive
A logo for your brand should stand out from the others, you don’t want to be lumped together with your competition, you want customers to see your logo and know that you’re different from all the other companies out there.
A logo can be both simple and distinctive, take for example the McDonalds logo! You just need to find that right balance of relevant, simple and different from any other logos out there. It’s a good idea to do some research before you start designing your logo so that you know what is already around and how to avoid becoming similar to it.
Type
Not all logos have type in them, but if yours does it is important that it is the right style to suit your business. If you’re unsure it may be best to just go with a simple font such as Cambria or Arial, but for the more adventurous you could try to find a font that fits in with what you offer to customers.
There are thousands of fonts out there it’s just a case of finding the right one for you! If you follow all of these steps your logo should be distinctive, visually pleasing and work to drive in those customers.
