The Five Stages Of Making a Promotional Video

Having a video on your website is a great way to improve your SEO ranking in google, and it can also be used across social media and other online platforms to drive more potential customers to your website. There are plenty of options when it comes to promotional videos, but are you prepared for the process making one involves?

If you decide you want a video for your website, it may be useful to know the stages that it will go through before it is sitting pretty on your site. Depending on what you require, the production time can be anything from a few weeks to a few months, so we thought it important to outline exactly what goes into making a video for one of our clients.

We have detailed the five major stages that you will go through on the way to your perfect promotional video being live and ready to view on your website! Take a look below:

1- Scripting

Once we have a feel for the direction your video is going to be heading in, we can begin the process by writing up a vague script for you. This means that it will detail elements such as voice over, interviews and other features but may not go in depth at this stage as to what those will include. 

After we have ensured you are happy with the style of the video we can move onto writing up a full, in-depth script that will be used on the day.

2- Storyboarding

Once you are happy with the script we have produced for you, we move onto the creation of a storyboard. This way you have the opportunity to see a visual representation of what we expect the video to look like. We tend to stick to a six frame storyboard, so although it may not show in detail the entirety of the video, you get an overall feel of what it will end up like.

We find it’s helpful to be able to see a snapshot of what the video will look like, this way there is no confusion once you have the completed product.

3- Sign off

Once you are totally happy with all of the above, we ask for a sign off, this means that all parties are agreed to what the video will sound and look like to avoid any confusion later on. Obviously we can make some changes when we are in the editing stage if you are unhappy with the video, but we try to get a clear idea of exactly what you are expecting from the video at this stage.

Sign off is the first milestone of video production and sees your video move into production! Now you just need to decide on a date for filming!

4- Filming

This is the fun stage! Once all the details are signed off, we can come down and take all the footage we need to make the video. Obviously, if you choose to have an animated video, this stage won’t be necessary.

Prior to this stage we will have sorted out any actors, presenters and makeup artists needed for your shoot. Depending on how much material we will need to make your ideal video, filming can stretch across multiple days.

Patience is a must when it comes to video production; we get as many shots as we possibly can, it’s always best to have options when it comes to the editing stage.

5- Editing

Once we have all of the footage we need to make the video, we can move on to then editing it all together to produce a smooth finish. You will initially receive a rough edit, which you can then refine as much as needed.

 

And when all of these stages are complete, you will have your brand new video! This can then be posted all over - on your social media pages, on your website, and even on your YouTube channel! Making a promotional video is a straight forward process, and can see a huge rise in the number of people visiting your website, so most definitely worth it.
