5 Productive Things you can be doing without the internet (at work)
Sep 18, 2017
In 1991 the World Wide Web was founded and put live to the public and since then it’s grown rapidly. The internet has become part of our everyday lives- it’s changed the way we communicate and has completely transformed the global economy. Individually, we rely on the internet possibly too much and when we cannot access the internet we don’t really know what to do with ourselves.
Well, this happened to us just this morning, our internet dropped out. Instead of sitting there staring out the window, we found alternative things to do before eventually finding internet and all was restored. We took this offline time to think of 5 things you could do if your office loses connection.
Write a list
Writing a to-do list first thing in the morning can massively help clear your head and allow you to focus on one thing at a time, and what a perfect time to dust off your notepad and pen. Having no internet may restrict what you can do but it’s not going to stop you from doing EVERYTHING.
Writing a list of all the projects you are working on and what is left to do on each one can help clear your head and stop any form of panic surrounding the internet going down. It’s important to set achievable goals for yourself and to be realistic to avoid any panic at the end of the day.
Have a Team Meeting
Planning is a huge necessity for the team. As a digital design agency, a lot of our work is internet based, however, it is massively important to our process that all the team are on the same page. Using your offline time to schedule, talk to each other and solve problems can be time well spent. Work through any problems you are having, if any, but also celebrate achievements from the previous week. Get creative to spark new and exciting content and design ideas!
You don’t have to just talk about projects, why not take the time to organise your work Christmas Party? (Christmas Day is only 98 days away, but who’s counting?) Or, talk about rearranging the office or even anything you want changed in the company?
Grab a Camera
It’s 2017 and your company almost definitely has an Instagram profile, if not a Twitter or Facebook. So, why not set the team a photography challenge that ignites creativity and inspires? You can then share them on your social platforms to showcase your team’s creativity and personality. Whether you stay in the office or have a wander around the big wide world, taking photo’s forces you to look at things differently which may inspire a new design or colour palette.
Prepare your Social Media
Although you need the almighty internet to post on your respective social media channels, you don’t, however, need the internet to plan and schedule your posts. Use this time without the internet to work on your posts without distraction. It will force you to think of original and creative status updates. Why not step out of your comfort zone and create infographics or stylised quotes to brighten up your feed?
Make a cuppa
Ease the stress by offering to make everyone a good old cuppa tea, because tea fixes everything.
