Bitesize Blog: Blogging - 5 Ways to Keep Organised & Motivated
Jul 10, 2017
Blogging has no rules- it’s completely up to you what you write about, when you post and how many times. However, it can be hard to keep on top of blogging, especially for a business, so sometimes setting some blogging rules for yourself can really help to keep you both organised and motivated!
We’ve put together a few of the rules that have helped us keep our blog consistent with content!
PLAN
Blogging is time-consuming and something that has to be built up over time. You aren’t going to have millions of readers in a matter of minutes, and that’s ok! Consistency is the key to building up a following and planning blog titles and when they will be posted on your site is really going to help you attract potential readers.
Trello is a great tool to use for your planning; essentially it’s an online to-do list and completely flexible for your needs. Alternatively, if you prefer writing and brainstorming on paper that’s also a great way to plan- it’s really what works for you. As long as you give yourself some time to plan, that way you’ll feel less rushed.
SCHEDULE
Planning leads nicely on to the next rule which is scheduling. Scheduling is great when you have multiple blogs written already, instead of just sitting on Word why not schedule them on your site, so if you are elsewhere the post still goes up on the right day and at a time you choose. You can also schedule Facebook status’s and Tweets ahead of time, which is great if you are promoting your posts on your social media. Hootsuite is a platform that allows you to do just that.
WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying- any idea is a good idea. It’s true, whatever the idea it is, it’s better than no idea. So, if an idea pops into your head, no matter where you are and how simple or complicated the idea is, write it down! It doesn’t necessarily have to be on paper, create a note on your phone instead. Then when it comes to your planning of upcoming blog titles, you’ll have a wealth of ideas that you can work on already! Writing ideas down definitely helps to stop that all-consuming creative block!
SET REMINDERS
If your blog post has been scheduled to go up in advance, why not set a reminder on your phone or computer so you’re aware. It’ll prompt you to check the post and social media went up without any problems. Also, you can check any engagement to your post such as comments you may want to reply to!
LISTS
All the above points really stem from one important rule and that’s making lists. They all incorporate lists of some sort and that’s because making lists can really help clear your head as well as keep you organised and motivated. Ticking things off as you go gives you a sense of accomplishment which in turn keeps you motivated.
