Bitesize Blog: 3 Ways to make your Blog Titles Click Worthy
Jun 26, 2017
Bitesize blogs are short, snappy, bite-size chunks of information that can be read in 5 minutes! So, take 5 minutes out of your day to learn something new.
It’s one thing writing great content but it’s another getting your blog read and ranked which becomes the real tricky part. This is where a killer title comes into play- the title almost acts as the salesperson for your blog post.
We’ve come up with a few simple tips for writing click-worthy headlines and titles.
Start Basic and Stay Accurate
It can be a lot of pressure coming up with a title that is both catchy but not click bait! If you prefer to write the title before the content, you’re faced with a blank page which can be daunting. Get rid of that feeling of dread and start with a working title. A working title is a temporary title that describes the specifics; you can worry about making it clickable later on!
To create a working title, just describe the post in literal terms. For example, if you are writing a post about dinner recipes, you could have something like, ‘Quick Recipes for a Healthy Meal that the Whole Family can Enjoy’. Keep it descriptive and don’t worry about anything but formalising a title first.
Short but Sweet.
A good idea is to keep it short, with many people aiming for 5-7 words for the ideal headline. This means the entire title is more likely to be read. Choose clarity over clever riddles; it could cost you a reader. Your reader should be able to take a glimpse and immediately know what they will learn.
Posing a question is a good solution to keeping it short and simple if you are struggling with a title. A question makes it seem like a conversation, making readers curious to find the answer.
Make it Jump Out
Once you have the basis of the title which is clear and simple, you need to add a bit of mystery to spice it up! A title doesn’t just have to be bland text; be playful and relevant to trends happening in the world. A few things you can add are…
- Passion – Use strong language to show your excitement, people are more likely to click if they see you are passionate about the subject.
- Be Funny – Catch reader’s eye with a good joke! A sense of humour shows the personality of the brand and stands out against bland titles.
- Offer Something- Don’t claim anything in your title that you aren’t providing but do offer something that the reader needs to know- use call to action words!
There are so many blog posts published each day, and many will cover the same topic as you. That doesn’t mean you won’t necessarily pull in readers, you just need to catch their eye with a great headline. Follow our simple steps and you’ll be well on your way to drawing in readers!
