Everything you need to know about improving your Google Page Rank

Jul 22, 2016

Tags: Google, SEO, ranking
Category: SEO

Ranking first on Google is any business owners dream, but that shouldn’t be your focus. If your site doesn’t have quality content or easy and fast functionality, it doesn’t matter where you rank, you won’t get quality customer engagement. In order to rank well, you need to think about your visitor experience first and your search engine position second.

The process needs patience and time

Going into this, you need to accept this process will take time. No one climbs to the top of Google overnight; if they did the internet would be chaotic. Waiting is particularly important for sites that have recently gone live because your site’s content is new to search engines.

Create a community

If you are familiar with other businesses in the same industry as you, or with your local community, they can help share links from your website and promote your content. This will direct more traffic your way.

Evaluate your site

Here are some easy questions you need to ask yourself about your website:

Is my site fast?

Web users will wait on average 6-10 seconds before abandoning a site. Without fast loading times, you’ll lose a lot of traffic and potential customers.

Is my content clear and easy to read?

In the past, some website owners overloaded their content with keywords in order to rank better. Search Engine algorithms have become a lot smarter now so that trick doesn’t work. Your content should be easy and readable for people because they’ll be the ones who interact with your site the most.

Does my site have a responsive design?

As you’re aware, laptops and desktops are no longer the only way users access the internet. 60% of internet access takes place on mobile devices. Your site needs a design that will accommodate all devices to better your customer experience. In doing so they are more likely to engage with you.

Is my site visually interesting?

Your website needs to reflect your brand image so your customers can understand more about you and how you want to be perceived. If a business doesn’t understand its own identity, it’s customers never will. Plus, 38% of people will stop engaging with a website if the content/layout is unattractive.

Do I update my content often?

If you don’t update your site often it becomes stagnant, and it limits how high it can rank. You need to continually update your site so search engines have something to crawl through. If this content is helpful and relevant it will help your ranking. The easiest way to do this is with a blog.

Manage your SEO

Do your keyword research

As mentioned before, stuffing your content with keywords isn’t effective, but that doesn’t mean they don’t matter. You need to do your research to find relevant keywords you can use throughout your site’s and in the meta tags. There are a number of tools you can use for keyword research, they’ll help you determine the amount of searches and competition of each keyword. The best keywords are those with a high number of searches and low competition.

Stay up to date with SEO

SEO is essential for ranking in Google – even a little work can improve your site’s visibility. You should monitor how your SEO improves your ranking and tweak to it every once in a while. You can learn how to sort your SEO by reading online guides.

Improving these elements will make a huge difference to your site’s success. Remember each of these elements will require careful time and attention in order to be most effective. If you need help creating a site with a responsive design and up to date SEO management, then you’re in the right place. We specialise in both areas here at The Creation Lab and we’d love to help you in any way we can.
