Food for Thought: How to boost creativity when you're out of the office?

Ever had that Friday afternoon where you are faced with creative block left, right and centre? It might be time to step out of the office in order to charge up your creativity. Taking a break from the office is a great way to boost creativity, and there are many things you can do to create a sense of escapism for your head, even if you are only 100 yards away from your office building. We’ve created a few easy ways to do this, some of which can even be done in the office if, for some reason, you can’t leave!
Go For a Walk
To combat that afternoon slump, take a walk during your lunch break. It’s a well-known fact that exercise can help stimulate and energise your body and more importantly, your brain. It’s simple but so effective and anyone can do this, even if it’s just walking to the local shop and back. Use your lunch break to discover new things around your office building; you never know, something could spark that million dollar idea.
Take Pictures
Why not make your walk at lunch a photography project? Capture new places you discover and make it your aim to show them in new lights- you could compare summer to winter shots. Taking pictures can open up your creativity tenfold and you may even be inspired by what you find. Take the time to think about the right angles and lighting and editing them to create something unique. Photography is a great way to stay creative when you are outside of the office. Why not create photography missions for the whole office, to not only boost morale but encourage others to be creative.
Find somewhere to eat lunch
There are so many great places to discover that serve lovely delicious food that may be just around the corner and you have no idea! Talk to locals and your friends at work and ask for recommendations, but don’t rule out bringing a packed lunch into work and finding a relaxing space to enjoy!
Listen to music
Just listening to music and focusing on the lyrics can be a real eye opener and a great way to unwind and let your mind escape to imagine and be creative without any worries. Find a quiet spot either outside or in the office building and just do nothing but listen to music.
Keep a Notepad nearby
A blank notepad can be daunting; normally you want to keep the first page as neat as it can be, but why? We dare you to just scribble on the first page, literally pick up a pen or pencil and draw anything - it’s a freeing feeling and also a great way to focus on something other than work. Regardless of your artistic ability, it’s a great way to stay creative.
Read a book
There is nothing more satisfying than just sitting and really becoming engrossed in a good book when you read a book you’re being forced to imagine a whole new world. Reading can be a good way to end your day, instead of looking at your phone or laptop!
