How to create a successful business blog

A business blog is an excellent way of keeping your clients up to date with information about your organisation and the industry. It will make you a reliable and useful source of information that your customers can look to and it helps with your search engine performance.

UNDERSTAND YOUR AUDIENCE

Before you begin, take a minute to decide what you want to write, keeping in mind the kind of information your readers care about. You could even enquire on social media and use their responses as a starting point. 

CREATE VARIED CONTENT

A variety of content will make your blog refreshing to read.

YOUR POSTS COULD BE:

Informative – talk about the industry or discuss some of the products/ services you offer as a business in greater detail.

Light-hearted – these make for an easy read. For example, we recently wrote a post about everyone’s favourite songs on the office playlist.

Advice/ tips – offer helpful tips and tricks that are relevant to your business, which will answer your readers’ questions and improve an area in their life.

Socially relevant – if you write about your thoughts on something socially relevant that impacts your business, it shows that you’re switched on and up-to-date with what’s current.

It’s also a good idea to add a few links to your posts, to other websites and pages within your own website, as they make your post better for google and your readers.

 

UPDATE REGULARLY

In order to build up a good following for your blog, you’ll need to update it regularly. This could be once a week or twice a month. Doing so will reinforce the idea you’re a constant and trustworthy source of information.

PICK THE RIGHT LENGTH

The industry standard for a blog post is around 500 words. If your post is too long it might not be as concise as you’d like it to be and if it’s too short, it’s almost not worth clicking on. However, each post doesn’t need to be 500 words; for some topics, a longer article is appropriate, whereas a quick news update might end up being less.

ADD IMAGES

Integrating good quality images is always helpful. Visuals keep readers engaged and they’re a good way to break up the text so it’s easier to read.

USE HEADINGS

Posts with headings are easier to digest and appear less overwhelming. It also gives you more structure when writing. Remember, you need to select the correct H tags when writing your headings, as this will help with your SEO.

REMEMBER TO WRITE THE META TAGS

For each post, you’ll need to add meta title and descriptions which will improve your SEO. If an online user were to search for something that relates to your business, these meta tags will help your blog posts show up as answers to their questions.

SHARE YOUR BLOG ON SOCIAL MEDIA

This might seem obvious, but sharing your blog post on social media is crucial for creating interest in your content. It increases your reach and with the right approach, you could gain more readers and even boost your search engine ranking.
