Optimising Your E-Commerce Ready For Black Friday
Nov 22, 2016
It’s almost black Friday! And that means one thing…bargains galore in the shops AND online. Many people will choose to shop online this year to avoid the chaos that occurs on the shop floors, but is your site ready for the crush of customers sure to inundate it?
Every year we hear of websites going down because they are unable to cope with the traffic coming through, so how do we avoid this? We have come up with some advice to help you navigate your way through this black Friday and to avoid the common E commerce mistakes many are sure to make.
Never underestimate the power of shopping
A good idea for e-commerce sites on black Friday is to start preparing early! You can make changes to your system before the day to ensure that it is prepared for the amount of customers that are likely to be visiting.
Underestimating the amount of people that will be visiting your website on black Friday is one of the biggest and most common problems e-commerce websites encounter. However, we understand that having to guesstimate how many people will visit your website can be difficult; just remember it’s always better to prepare for too many than to be left missing out on revenue due to a down site.
Hassle free checking out
When it comes to checking out on your site, ensure that for black Friday it’s as short and as simple as possible. People trawling the shops online tend to want to buy and be done instantly, avoiding any long drawn out processes.
Although your checkout process may work perfectly fine for you during the rest of the year; when you have high levels of traffic and impatient customers wanting to get the best deals its best to keep the whole buying and checking out process short and sweet. A good idea is to get rid of any registration steps or bulky additional content that may not be applicable this Friday.
Even though you want to keep your checkout process short, ensure that you do not get rid of any return or shipping date information as this can cause you problems later on!
Optimise for mobiles
People tend to buy items more commonly on desktops than on mobile devices; however, this could change on Friday due to it being a work day. If people are unable to gain access to a desktop because they are perhaps on the train or in a taxi, they will resort to their phones to find those all-important bargains!
This makes it even more important that your site is mobile friendly for Friday! Making just one change could have a huge impact on your revenue either way; if you don’t give your customers the option to shop online it could mean your takings are down but if you optimise your site ready for the rush, you could see a mammoth increase in profits.
