Apr 26, 2017
Every week it gets to Wednesday, hump day if you will, and we feel a bit of light-hearted digital media news is needed to help motivate you through the rest of the week! So here’s a round-up of all the noteworthy new releases, designs and anything and everything social media related.
Rubric – Can this app write the perfect Instagram caption?
You’ve taken the perfect shot of the cherry blossom tree outside in Notting Hill, your avocado on toast or that epic sunset on holiday. The filter is on and you’re considering whether or not you should quit your job and become a photographer- it’s that good! However, you’re about to upload and before you know it, writers block hits you and you can’t think of a caption.
Thankfully, if this does happen there’s now an app that solves this. Thanks to former Made in Chelsea star Amber Atherton. Recently launched, Rubric uses computer vision technology to provide witty captions from trending phrases to lyrics and quotes just from analysing the image. Since launching the app has been downloaded more than 7,000 times! Check it out here: https://rubricapp.com/
Google and the fight against Fake News
Fake news comically has been featuring heavily in the news (real that is) lately. This has caused Google to change the way its core search engine works to help stop the spread of fake news and hate speech. Google has promised to demote “low-quality” websites that are promoting extreme views and conspiracy theories. They’ve also added a feature that allows users to report misleading or offensive content, resulting in Google to change the way pages are ranked in search results. Look out for fake news!
Uber in the Sky
Uber have successfully built a taxi service without actually owning any cars themselves so, what’s next for the innovative company? Well, flying cars of course. Uber have unveiled plans to partner with plane manufacturers to develop and test flying cars by 2020. They are targeting the 2020 World Expo in Dubai to launch the first Uber Elevate Network demo and hope to have its flying taxi service transporting customers as soon as 2023. The company has set a goal to make flying taxis a part of our daily lives.
It certainly sounds exciting, but how willing would you be to allow flying taxis to become a part of your daily routine? Here at The Creation Lab office we’re split!
