Top Web Design Trends of 2017
Nov 17, 2017
All creative fields have ever-changing trends, and web design is no different. The web is a unique environment that is continuously changing and evolving. We’ve put together some of our favourite web design trends that have featured on many of our websites in 2017.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness has been an ongoing trend in web design for some time now- and it isn’t going anywhere. Whilst it isn’t a new concept, 2017 has seen many more websites take a more conscious approach for smaller screened devices. In fact, mobile phones are officially the primary device used for browsing the internet, so it’s vital the websites we create look great on all screen sizes.
All of our sites are responsive, and you can take a look at them here.
Photography
Big photographic images are a huge part of modern web design. Many people are opting for professional images to be taken that relate to their brand rather than using stock images. Whilst stock images can come in handy, and they’re unlikely to ever completely disappear from websites, large, unique imagery has been a strong web design trend contender in 2017.
Take a look at some of the beautiful photography used on Wollen Michelmore’s website.
Animations
Static websites can be visually boring. As the web becomes more advanced, more and more websites are moving away from still imagery and opting for fun and exciting ways to engage users. A huge range of animations can be implemented onto websites, from a simple button rollover to animations on a much larger scale.
Video
Using videos rather than images is becoming increasingly popular within web design. Like animations, a video can capture the attention of a user, helping brands and businesses to get their message across in an instant. The use of video on websites is another trend that, whilst it isn’t new, is a versatile and useful way of story-telling, marketing and more.
Take a look at some of the video headers we’ve created over on Ruxley Manor’s website.
Colour
In the past, web designers have typically opted for web-safe colours. In 2017, more web design businesses are choosing colours with over-saturation, vibrant hues and the use of gradients. The bolder the colour, the more attractive the website is to users. In fact, vivid colour palettes are being used online in a variety of outputs, including photos, videos, illustrations and user interface.
