DO YOUR WEBSITE VISITORS TRUST YOU?
Feb 13, 2015
In the wise words of Stephen Covey, “Trust is the glue of life.”
For many of your potential customers or clients, their first point of contact with you is through your website.
From the way your website looks to the words you choose to describe your brand, there are many ways to either gain or lose the trust of those you want to spend money with you. Plus, if you do not gain their trust at this point, there’s nothing stopping them from clicking away and finding one of your competitors.
If you want to know whether your website visitors trust you, the following questions will help you see how trustworthy your site is.
Do people know who you are?
Our Meet the Team page is one of our most popular pages, and for a good reason: people want to know who we are. Are you a freelancer, do you have a small team, or is your company much bigger than that? While you don’t need to reveal absolutely everything, your website visitors want to put a face to the name because it reassures them that you are authentic.
Is your copyright year up to date?
It’s such a tiny part of your website, but it can be a big trust breaker for your website visitors. It gives the impression that you haven’t updated the site in a long time (even if it’s untrue). Check your footer and make sure your have the right date!
Is your design unique and current?
Did you know that 94% of people cite design as a reason they do not trust certain websites? Although design is subjective, it’s easy to tell if a website’s design is outdated or generic. You will be losing customers if you haven’t invested a little bit of time and effort making sure they have a good online experience.
Is your content up to date?
If your latest accolade or testimonial is from a few years ago, your website visitors will naturally assume that you have not received any praise since then. The same goes with all of your web content; make sure you keep the information up to date as it gives your visitors the very best representation of your brand.
Are your contact details easy to find?
Some people like to send a quick email, others prefer to pick up the phone and talk to someone, but everyone likes to know that there’s someone waiting to respond to their enquiry. If you don’t display your contact details in a prominent place, your website visitors may wonder why not.
How much do you give away for free?
Have you ever clicked on an article online, only to find that you need to sign up to read it? I don’t know about you, but it doesn’t make me want to sign up. In fact, I make a note not to visit the website again. Sharing knowledge, services and the occasional product online is a great way to build trust and will pay off in the long run!
We hope this has helped you identify how to make your website authentic and trustworthy for your potential customers. If you have any questions or comments please get in touch and we’d be happy to help!
