HOW WE CREATE A WEBSITE

Jul 21, 2015

Category: Websites

Before a website from The Creation Lab is brought into the world, it goes through a process which involved nearly every member of our team. We thought you might like to know a bit more about it…

AN INITIAL CHAT

All our websites begin with a good old fashioned phone call. We’ll chat through your current branding and look at your existing website if you have one, before working out what needs to change and what needs to stay the same. We will also ask you to show us any websites you like the look of, so that we can get an idea of the styles you prefer.

Once we have taken some detailed notes, it is time to start creating!

THE DESIGN

After studying the brief, our design team will get to work on your design. We do not use templates here at The Creation Lab – it all comes from the brilliant minds of Jane and Dan, our web designers. We will only design the homepage at this stage, as all the inside pages will adopt a similar feel.

DESIGN TWEAKS

The initial design is a bit like a blueprint for a new house; it is simply to show you how your new website is expected to look. This means that you can decide to make changes to anything you see. Don’t like the font? We can change that!

Because we want get everything right, we give you plenty of time to look at your design and send over any tweaks necessary, before moving to the next stage…

THE BUILD

Now that your design has been perfected, it is time for your website to take shape. Dan or Jane will bring the website to life using a mixture of HTML5 and CSS3, making sure that it complies with the latest search engine standards.

It is at this stage that we will in touch with you to discuss images and text, ready for the content stage…

THE CONTENT

If your website were a house, it has now been built – hooray! Now it is time to bring in the interior designers to furnish each room. At The Creation Lab, this is the responsibility of our content team, who furnishes your website with the right images and text.

Whether you would like to carry over the copy from your old website, or you would like it to be written from scratch, our writer Laura will make sure this is up to Google’s standards.

Ella, Deena and Amy will then create the web pages, a process which includes choosing from images you have provided, or selecting some high quality stock photography.

FINAL ADJUSTMENTS

Once you are happy with your website’s content, it is time to add the finishing touches. This includes checking your meta tags, so that you are ready to be found in Google, and testing your website across all screen sizes, to make sure it is fully mobile-friendly.

Lists are ticked off, spreadsheets are filled in, and we don’t stop until everything looks perfect.

THE BIG LAUNCH

Bring out the champagne and party poppers…we are ready to cut the ribbon on your new website! As soon as you give the nod, we will make the switch on your domain name and put your website live on the internet.

ONGOING SUPPORT

Now that your website is live, you can start using your Content Management System to update it whenever you like. Google loves an active website, so we recommend posting regular news articles or blog posts to keep things fresh. We are just a phone call or email away if you need any help with this, and we will also provide you with CMS user guides, so that you always have something to refer to if you get stuck.

So, there you have it – a quick insight into how we create a website here at The Creation Lab. If you have any questions about any part of the process, please feel free to get in touch with us!
