How to Use Social Media to Your Advantage This Christmas
Nov 27, 2015
Every year at The Creation Lab, we find an obscure Christmas song that becomes our anthem for December – last year it was “I’m the happiest Christmas Tree”, the year before, “I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”. We even requested it at the Christmas party. (It did not go down well).
While we haven’t found our favourite Christmas song yet this year, we have been thinking long and hard about how to bring a little festive cheer to our social media posts. But more about that later…
Four out of five people will be looking for Christmas presents online this year, so it makes sense to be engaging with your potential customers online.
But how, exactly, do you use social media to your advantage?
1. Have fun.
We all expect an avalanche of Christmas trees photos, school nativity videos, and pets in Christmas hats on Facebook at Christmas. Why not join in? You could share a snap of your office Christmas party or wear Christmas jumpers to work one day.
2. Share ideas.
We’re all looking for inspiration at this time of year, so now is the time to share your best seasonal products or gifts. If you are not a retail business, it’s a chance to be creative – you don’t have to share something that directly relates to your services. If you’re a plumber or electrician, why not share tips about keeping your home warm and toasty without overspending on heating?
3. Offer a helping hand.
With so many frazzled shoppers in December, good customer service is essential on social media. If your business is giving friendly responses and helpful advice, your customers will appreciate it and because it’s public, onlookers will take notice too.
4. Share discounts and offers.
Because everybody wants to save money at Christmas!
5. Run a competition.
You may have noticed that some brands run an advent calendar throughout December, offering a new prize each day. Other business may have one big prize to be won at the end of the Christmas period. A competition is a great way to generate a buzz about your business and also drive traffic to your website – so get thinking about what you could give away to your social media followers!
This year, we will be running a little competition of our own.
In the run up to Christmas, Matt the Elf will be making daily appearances on our website. Trouble is, Matt is a pesky elf that’s hard to tie down, so he’ll be hiding in a different place each day. For the lucky people that find Matt, there’ll be a surprise waiting for them.
We will be reminding everyone of our Elf Competition on Facebook and Twitter, so keep a lookout and you’ll be in with a chance of winning a festive bottle of bubbly for your business!
