The Next Top SEO Trends for 2017

It’s 2017! And as a welcome into the New Year we thought we would take the time to look at search engine optimisation and how it has evolved over the past year.


Search engine optimisation has been developing at an immense rate over 2016, and it isn’t expected to slow down in 2017! Google plans to keep businesses on their toes, but we have gathered a few tips to give you a head start on your SEO for the New Year.


Take a look at the trends you should be looking out for in the coming months:


1) Keywords for user intent

Search is getting more and more complex with the introduction of new Google algorithms and smart home technology and it is becoming apparent that simple keywords are returning simple results. In modern times people know to get the answers they want out of google they must type in the full question or phrase they want answers to. In 2017 businesses will need to start optimising their keywords for user intent and not just specific keywords to get higher up in the Google SEO rankings.

There are three crucial aspects to doing this and they are: looking into what your customers are searching to get to your page, making the necessary changes based on this and then keeping up with your analytics to see what is working and what isn’t.


2) Cross channel marketing

Cross channel marketing is a great tool for getting your company seen over lots of different devices and for targeting ads at the right people. If someone is looking on your website on their mobile for example, then clicks off of it, cross channel marketing means that you can then send them targeted adverts through their email or on social media.


However, to make this type of marketing fully effective it’s important that you know who your target audience is and how to approach them correctly. We’re sure that this will continue to thrive in 2017 as a great method of targeting your market.


3) Mobile optimising

If it wasn’t already, optimising your website for mobile users will become an essential in 2017. With Google introducing mobile first indexing in line with the increasing amount of people using their mobiles for search over desktop, and it being reported that many more users are accessing sites on their mobile, it will be obligatory to offer this to your customers in 2017.

4) Voice search

This has become one of 2016’s fastest growing search options and it’s not hard to see why, it’s easy, more accessible and fast. And it’s likely to become even more popular in 2017 with the development of the algorithm to go above and beyond what it is capable of now.


There are more and more companies jumping onto the smart home technologies such as fridge’s that allow you to order products you need, the amazon button and even Google home allowing you to control your entire household with the drop of a trigger word. It’s almost certain this technology will continue to rise throughout 2017.
