Bitesize Blog: 3 Things to make a great call-to-action for your blog posts
Jul 03, 2017
What is a call-to-action (CTA)?
A call-to-action is an image or copy that prompts your visitors, leads and customers to take action. The action could be anything from attending an event to clicking on to another page of a site, usually prompting the reader to act in a positive way towards the product or service you are providing. Essentially, the purpose is to keep your reader moving forward in the buyer’s journey.
Make it Obvious
Your call-to-action has to stand out from your content as a clear action for your reader to take. The user needs to know what will happen when they click on the CTA, with your CTA matching what the user anticipates. Tell them what happens next- there is no time to be subtle.
Evoke Curiosity
You may think this point is completely opposite to the first point of being obvious in your CTA’s, however you need to create a build-up of some sort. If you cram all the information in your CTA there is no point in having one! The key is to be obvious about what will happen next but to use copy which is both alluring and helps the user to envision the reward.
Curiosity created effectively, is a powerful tool and can lead to increased sales. However, when creating curiosity, remember to be honest with your readers; don’t lure them in with powerful and over-exaggerated words, only to give them something that will disappoint.
A few ways to create curiosity are;
- Create urgency – A sense of urgency creates that “get it now before it’s gone” – people will be looking for a reward or benefit and won’t want to miss out!
- Emotive Language – Talk to them directly with the use of ‘your’ and ‘you’ - being conversational can create trust. You need to satisfy their emotions to evoke curiosity, as they wonder what you could be offering.
- Don’t over share – Save details for the page they click-through to.
Consider the Location
A CTA should be used in all your blog posts- more often than not you are writing a post on your area of expertise so, why not include a CTA that relates to the post? For example, the blog post you are currently reading will include a link back to our service of providing great SEO and blog packages. Keeping this in mind, a CTA on a blog post would be better located at the end of each post. This gives the visitor time to read your post and to gain to trust in you and your expertise, making them more likely to click on your CTA at the end.
