I need a website. What now?
Feb 05, 2016
Maybe you’ve just launched a new company and creating a new website is next on your list, or perhaps you’re already an established business but your website is out of date. Now you’ve stumbled across us, found yourself on this page, and everything suddenly seems a bit daunting…so what happens next?
Research
It’s always wise to begin a project like this by doing some research. This will help you get a feel for current trends what other companies in your industry are doing. Perhaps you know that you like websites consisting of large imagery, or plainer more corporate websites, but maybe you have no idea where to start! For some ideas, why not take a look at Laura’s post, Where to find inspiration for your new website.
Functionality
The nature of your business will heavily influence the functionality you require from your website. For example, a photographer will use their website to showcase their work, and will therefore be very visual and image-based, whereas a printing company may rely on people using their website to order leaflets or business cards. If this is your first website and, aside from creating an online presence for your company, you’re unsure as to what else your website could do for your business, then just ask, and that’s where we can help.
Budget
Everyone has a budget, whether large or small, and of course this is something which will determine the size and complexity of the website you will be able to afford. You may come across companies who offer you a website for free, such as Wix or Moonfruit, but, as with most things, you must be wary that you will get what you pay for.
Chances are, if you’re a new(ish) company you won’t have a huge budget and it’s wise not to put all your eggs in one basket and spend thousands of pounds on a website when your company is still in the early stages. Find a company that will work with you to create something that’s within your budget.
Quote
Once we’ve got an understanding of what your business is about and what you need, we will put together a bespoke quote for you, taking into account your budget and requirements.
Some website companies won’t give you access to your content management system, so you won’t be able to update the content, and they will charge you through the roof for their time to do this for you. Find a company that has no hidden costs. For example, the price we quote you here at The Creation Lab will include hosting, UK telephone support and a design which is responsive across all mobile devices.
The websites we build are flexible, because we’re not limited by templates, which means that you can add new functionalities further down the line as your company evolves.
Design
Your website design is extremely important, and it’s vital that the look and feel reflects your company’s personality and is appropriate for your target audience.
If you buy a template website, you can guarantee that there are other websites out there which look identical to yours. Your website is your shop front, take this is an opportunity to showcase your branding and the uniqueness of your company.
