Writing Business Blogs: 6 Top Tips

Nov 01, 2016

A blog is a great way to increase the web traffic through your site and it also positively impacts on your SEO ranking in google, so if your website has one that’s great! The only problem is trying to decide on topics to go into the blog posts. It can become difficult with the amount of content out there on the internet to come up with original ideas, so we have decided to give you a helping hand.

There are certain base elements when it comes to blog writing that we feel will help you on your way to writing imaginative, clever and creative material that is sure to stand out above the rest! So we have come up with 6 top tips when it comes to posting blogs on your website.

Unique

Be sure you are posting content that is unique to anything else that is out there. Simply copying someone else’s blog idea will not do your site any favours; not only is it plagiarising, it won’t help in bringing people to your site if it already exists. Google is known for punishing those who copy material by pushing their SEO ranking down, so don’t do it!

Another side to this is when people rehash already posted content from their own sites, we understand that writers block does exist, but doing this won’t bring in any more customers than if you were to not post at all.

Take your time, do your research and come up with something brand spanking new especially for your customers.

Relevant to your site

As well as your blog being unique, it needs to retain its relevance to your business. It’s all well and good coming up with a never before seen title that will get noticed, but if it has no link to what you are marketing, it won’t have the desired effect of getting more people interested in your company.

Make sure you are focusing on topics that will work for your business, for example if you are a car garage, you could write about how to change a tyre, or the benefits of the services you are providing.

Current

A good idea when it comes to writing blogs is to keep up with anything in the news that can relate to your business. By keeping your topics current, you can target issues that might be trending or popular and therefore interest a wider audience. Getting more people reading your blog will mean that more people are attracted to your website, all of whom are potential customers!

You can also boost your SEO ranking by doing this as if something is popular in the news, more people will be googling it. Obviously it’s important to make sure you are being appropriate when using this method; you don’t want a backlash for your site if you target the wrong type of news story.

Light-hearted and relevant to your business news stories are perfect for drawing in a crowd and boosting that all important SEO.

Interesting

Keep your blog posts interesting, if you have a great attention grabbing title but the content is dull as dishwater, your websites bounce rate will rocket – this means that although people may click onto the site, they won’t stay for long!

Make sure that not only the areas you are writing about are interesting but that the full blog keeps that attention going throughout, it needs to have momentum in order to keep customers on the site for as long as possible.

Researched

If you are writing about something technical in your blog posts that you may not be accustom to, you need to make sure that you have fully researched into it before posting anything! If there’s one thing that people hate, it’s wrong information.

Make sure that all the information you source is accurate and correct, this way you know that your blog is useful to people. You don’t want your blog to gain attention for the wrong reasons; you want to help your customers as much as you can.

Actionable

This leads nicely onto our next point, information that can be actioned. Providing data that can be applied in some way by your customers is a great way to get them interested each week or month. Giving a series of tips or pointers will inspires your customers and provides trust in your company.

Make sure never to patronise or instruct though, just give gentle reassurances; they know what they are doing, you just want to help them improve.

If you follow all of these top tips we are sure that you will have readers in the palm of your hand, and greatly improve your SEO whist you’re at it! Or if you feel like you need some help, we would be happy to oblige.

We here at The Creation Lab specialise in writing business blogs that are relevant, original and attention grabbing, if you are interested in finding out what we can offer to your business feel free to get in touch here. Or contact us directly by calling on 01322 252292.
